Just as everyone was preparing for a Joseph Gordon-Levitt batman in Warner Bros.’ upcoming Justice League, Marvel announces, via Deadline, that the actor is a front-runner for a role in their new major franchise, Guardians of the Galaxy. Other actors tested for roles include Joel Edgerton, Jim Sturgess, Lee Pace, Jack Huston, and more.
This puts Levitt in a very particular situation. Playing Robin in The Dark Knight trilogy and then moving over to a Marvel character? It’s almost as bad as J.J. Abrams directing Star Trek and Star Wars. It’s quite a betrayal for loyal fans.
Guardians of the Galaxy, directed by James Gunn, is scheduled to release in 2014.
