Child actors who never made it

Jake Lloyd

Who? Maybe if I said “the kid who played Anakin Skywalker in The Phantom Menace”, then you’ll understand what I’m taking about. It’s never fair to hate a kid, but to dislike their role in one of the most anticipated-then-hated movies of the Star Wars saga is considered genuine in my book. Jake Lloyd didn’t have it easy after Episode I debuted in the late 90s. He played a 10-year old Bella Swan in a galaxy far, far away. How could someone exceed after that? The only thing he’s done since is star in Madison alongside Mary McCormack.

He wasn’t in Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, he was in Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory.

Peter Ostrum “Never Made It”? He co-starred alongside the legendary Gene Wilder and Jack Albertson in one of the most fondly remembered family movies of all time. Then he chose to change careers. How is that “not making it”?

I really, genuinely hope that you do not actually consider “The Karate Kid” to be Ralph Macchio’s only success. If for some insane reason this is true, I need only point you to “The Outsiders” to correct this tragic statement. Stay golden, Mansoor.

No, actually I don’t consider that to be his only success. I was trying to state that, in my personal opinion, The Karate Kid is simply what he is most known for, to the general public–which contributed to his lack of a long Hollywood career. I think The Outsiders is a phenomenal movie; Rob Lowe was my favorite.

I think of him from “My Cousin Vinny”
