A few months ago we reported that HBO was anxious to get a third WWII miniseries going; and now HBO has confirmed today (to THR) that Steven Speilberg and Tom Hanks will be making a third WWII miniseries for the network based off of Donald Miller‘s Masters of the Air: America’s Bomber Boys Who Fought the Air War Against Nazi Germany. The third part in the duo’s WWII sort-of trilogy will be revolved around the enlisted soldiers of the Eighth Air Force; soldiers known as the Mighty Eighth.
The untitled project, which will be co-produced by Hanks and Gary Goetzman‘s Playtone along with Spielberg’s Amblin Television, has not been given a release date yet, nor a cast and crew.
Band of Brothers was a 10-part series that premiered in 2001 and won 6 Emmys after being nominated for 19. The Pacific premiered in 2010 and won 8 Emmys.
