Many filmmakers have been rumored to be in talks to direct Star Trek 3 after J.J. Abrams took up the director’s role for Star Wars Episode VII, but now Deadline reports that Attack the Block director Joe Cornish is the one that has been selected for the opportunity.¬†Cornish has previously written scripts for The Adventures of Tin Tin and most recently helping Edgar Wright on Marvel’s Ant-Man.

In addition to this directors news, it is being reported that Paramount is eyeing a summer 2014 production start date in order to meet the summer 2016 release window for the franchise’s 50th anniversary.
