Here’s Why J.J. Abrams & Lawrence Kasdan Took Over Writing STAR WARS 7 Script

It was recently announced that J.J. Abrams and Lawrence Kasdan took over writing the script for Star Wars Episode VII from Michael Ardnt, we now know why.

In a recent conference call promoting About Human, Abrams explained the sudden change in scripting duties: “Working with Michael was a wonderful experience and I couldn’t be a bigger fan of his or adore him more, He’s a wonderful guy and was incredibly helpful in the process.  And working with Lawrence Kasdan, especially on a Star Wars movie, is unbeatable.  It became clear that given the time frame and given the process and the way the thing was going that working with Larry, in this way, was going to get us where we need to be and when we needed to be.  That doesn’t preclude working with Michael again in the future, at all.  I couldn’t say enough good things about him.  He’s one of the smartest guys, and one of the best writers around.”

Honestly, I would prefer Abrams, who’s directing the film, and Kasdan, who previously wrote Episode V: The Empire Strikes Back, aka the greatest Star Wars movie ever, to write the script.

[UPDATE] Disney has just announced the release date for Star Wars Episode VII.

Well that didn’t really explain anything. That was just JJ kissing Arndt’s butt. (presumably not to burn bridges) If that was an explanation, it was of the variety a politician uses when he wants to completely dodge the question. If anything, they’ve set back the time frame and fallen out a bit publicly with Disney over it lately. And “The way the thing was going.”? How specific – my curiosity is put to rest. Shame on you for being misleading!

However, I strongly agree Kasdan should be the primary writer of these prequels.
