10 Sequels That Are Totally Pointless
The Best Exotic Marigold Hotel 2
Back in 2012, The Best Exotic Marigold Hotel became a sleeper hit for the adult audience when it released. Based off of the novel These Foolish Things by Deborah Moggach, the film resonated with an audience that was closer to retirement than their 21st birthday. I really enjoyed the film and it had a sort of dry humor that I don’t find very often; plus, some of the actors in the film of among my favorites: Tom Wilkinson, Bill Nighy, Judi Dench, etc. But having a sequel based off nothing that hopes to capture that same phenomena is ridiculous. We don’t need to know what happened to the characters nor do we need a fake story drummed up to make a bit more cash.
Pitch Perfect 2
Anna Kendrick’s Cups song has become enormously popular and the fandom behind Rebel Wilson grew so much that she got her own TV show, but is all this reason enough to justify a sequel to Pitch Perfect? No, it isn’t. Just because the first movie was great and it made the studio a shit ton of money, doesn’t mean fans want a sequel. Having said that, I’m still going to see it.
